CONTEXT FOR PRO LA EXHIBITION 
In the early to mid-1970s, one of the most controversial conceptual artists in Poland during that time, poet, composer, cultural provocateur, Andrzej Partum transformed his Biuro Poezji/Bureau de la Poesie to PRO LA Gallery. He was PRO LA's Director, and its headquarters were in his austere live in studio in Warsaw Poland that served also as a gallery and cultural space.
Partum was uncompromising artist who was respected and feared by fellow artists and scrutinized by authorities. In "The Art of Pro / La, " he wrote about art, that exists only as a thought process without inspiration. It is the art of self, which also eliminates the problem of communication for it provokes and stimulates the creative state of anxiety.

IWONA LEMKE AT PRO LA in 1983
When Iwona Lemke was 25, she was invited to have a show at PRO LA Gallery. For the show, she wrote an alternative PRO LA manifesto in which she subverted Parfum's influential position in the art world while also playfully exhorting Parfum as a pro-feminist. Her exhibition consisted of a series of geometric abstract paintings incorporating the term "PRO LA," and a performance with reading her own manifesto. During the performance, she irreverently "feminized" the artist's impressive library by spraying it with perfume. The assembled audience ended up eating a cake, another sly nod to women's work and wiles. 

In 1984 Andrzej Partum produced the publication in Copenhagen documenting the event.
